ADS & SSI - LGBT Inclusive Practice Training
ACON is partnered with Advance Diversity Services (ADS) & Settlement Services International (SSI) to provide four LGBTQ Inclusive Practice training webinar, delivered across Sydney Greater Area and Newcastle partners. This training is ONLY open to member organisations of the NSW Settlement Partnership.

Advance Diversity Services (ADS) is a non-profit community organisation which has been providing support services to the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities since 1981. SSI is a community organisation and social business that supports newcomers and other Australians to achieve their full potential.
The LGBTQ Inclusive Practice Webinar will help you improve your provision of person-centred care and elevate your clients’ overall experience. Strengthen your understanding of sexuality and gender diverse people and communities to deliver more inclusive, informed and appropriate care.
There are three steps in our LGBTQ Inclusive Practice Webinar Training:

Learners complete their online pre-requisite training (~1 hour)This is learner’s paced and includes the following steps
- Pretraining Survey
- ACON's LGBTQ Introduction eLearning (Formerly known as LGBTI Awareness eLearning) which has three learning modules:
- Meet the LGBTQ Communities
- Know the Facts
- Learn about the Lived Experiences

Learners attend 2 webinar sessions (2.5 hours each) This will be set on the dates and times of their registered group. Learners have to get online and join via the link. Furthermore, the webinar access link will only be provided to those who complete the pre-requisite training as we consider that a part of the learning pathway.
- Part 1 is a review of gender and sexuality, inclusive language, LGBTQ lives in Australia, minority stress, discrimination, harassment, intersectionality impact, and LGBTQ history
- Part 2 is about health priorities of LGBTQ communities and service providers, allyship, and how to of inclusive practice for service providers

Learners complete their online training evaluation (~10 minutes)This is learner’s paced but since we don’t keep learners on our system more than a few months after their training it’s best advised to complete this step right after the second webinar training.
- Learners complete a post-evaluation survey after being marked as attended on our system
- Learners get access to their certificate and can print or save that as PDF
Training Topics:
- The difference between sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.
- Understanding the lived experiences of people with a diverse gender and sexuality.
- Several health impacts caused by social stigma, assumptions, and bias.
- Significant legislative actions and defining moments in queer history.
- Useful tips to help you become a stronger ally for people with a diverse gender and sexuality
- Best practices to ensure inclusivity in your service.
- How to identify areas of practice in your services or organisation that may require review.
- Mechanisms to help you implement inclusive practice into day-to-day client interactions.
- Independent and co-dependent methods to drive organisational change—and why it’s essential.
- Other tips to help you elevate inclusive services across your organisation.
Training Outcomes:
After this training, learners should be able to:
- Differentiate between gender and sexuality
- Summarise unique health and wellbeing disparities faced by sexuality and gender diverse people
- Review important events from queer history and the current legislation related to these priority populations
- Detect areas for improvement within their role and workplace
- Develop strategies and implement actions to increase access and satisfaction of service for people with diverse sexuality and gender
Requirements for the webinar:
- Individual access to computer/laptop with a Chrome web browser
- High-speed internet
- Familiarity with general computer knowledge
- Access to headphones/microphone (webcam is optional)
- Your mobile phone to participate in live activities
