Build skills to support LGBTQ+ people affected by sexual assault

LGBTQ+ people who have experienced sexual assault often face unique barriers to disclosure, safety, and recovery. These can include fear of discrimination, lack of culturally safe services, and previous negative experiences with health or wellbeing providers. Without the right knowledge and approach, service responses risk compounding trauma rather than supporting healing.

This two‑course eLearning bundle combines:

  • LGBTQ+ Introduction (1 hour) – covering foundational concepts, terminology, and an understanding of diverse genders and sexualities. View this course HERE.
  • Sexual Assault in LGBTQ+ Communities (1.5 hours) – exploring the specific dynamics, challenges, and best‑practice responses to sexual assault in LGBTQ+ populations

Co‑designed with health and wellbeing service providers and LGBTQ+ community members with lived experience, the training blends expert guidance with powerful personal stories to deepen understanding. You’ll gain both the foundational knowledge and the specialised skills needed to respond respectfully, effectively, and confidently.

Ideal for health and wellbeing service providers, including General Practitioners and clinicians, this training equips you to provide safe, affirming, and effective care that meets the needs of survivors from diverse genders and sexualities.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Define LGBTQ+ and differentiate between gender and sexuality.
  2. Demonstrate in‑depth awareness of the mental and physical health disparities facing the LGBTQ+ community.
  3. Implement practical LGBTQ+ allyship strategies, including the use of inclusive language and appropriate terminology.
  4. Apply inclusive practice principles to improve access to health services for the LGBTQ+ community.
  5. Respond appropriately and sensitively to an LGBTQ+ person affected by sexual assault.
