LGBTQ+ Inclusive Practice for Aged Care Services Webinar

Build the knowledge and confidence to provide safe, respectful, and inclusive care for older LGBTQ+ people in aged care settings.

Older LGBTQ+ people have lived through periods of significant discrimination, criminalisation, stigma, and invisibility. Many have experienced trauma or exclusion in healthcare and aged care services, which can influence their willingness to disclose their identity or seek support. Creating culturally safe, inclusive environments is essential to ensuring older LGBTQ+ people feel respected, affirmed, and able to access the care they deserve.

This comprehensive full‑day training deepens your understanding of LGBTQ+ identities, lived experiences, and the unique needs of older LGBTQ+ people, while equipping you with practical strategies to embed inclusive practice into everyday aged care work. Developed and delivered by LGBTQ+ community members and subject matter experts, the session blends foundational knowledge with applied learning through case studies, reflective activities, and real‑world scenarios.

Across the day, you’ll explore terminology, lived experience, discrimination and its impacts, historical context, health priorities for older LGBTQ+ people, barriers to care, and the practical steps aged care workers can take to create culturally safe, inclusive, and affirming environments. Designed for residential, community, and home‑based aged care workers, this training supports you to confidently engage with older LGBTQ+ clients and adapt your practice to meet their unique needs.
