Learn how to ask the right questions
Many organisations collect social and health data without fully understanding how to ask about gender and sexuality in ways that are respectful, accurate, and inclusive. Without the right approach, questions can feel intrusive, alienating, or lead to incomplete and unreliable data — impacting both service quality and community trust.
This eLearning builds your confidence to ask appropriate questions about gender and sexuality, in line with the latest Australian Bureau of Statistics standards. Developed by LGBTQ+ subject matter experts and informed by the voices of community members, providers, and researchers, it explains what indicators are, why they matter, and how to use them effectively. You’ll learn the recommended questions to ask, the reasons behind them, and practical tips to ensure your data collection supports better outcomes for both services and the LGBTQ+ community.
Ideal for General Practitioners, clinicians, and professionals involved in data collection, this training will help you meet best‑practice standards while fostering respectful, inclusive interactions.
