Foundations for Respectful Practice
Even well‑intentioned professionals can feel uncertain about the right language to use, how to distinguish between gender and sexuality, or what meaningful allyship looks like in practice. This uncertainty can lead to hesitation, missed opportunities for connection, and unintentional exclusion.
This course bridges that gap by building your confidence to engage respectfully and inclusively with LGBTQ+ people. Developed by LGBTQ+ subject matter experts and enriched with real stories from community members, it offers practical tools you can apply immediately in your work. You’ll gain insight into the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people, understand the impacts of discrimination, and explore how visibility and inclusion can reduce harm and foster belonging.
Learning Outcomes
By the end, you’ll be able to:
- Define LGBTQ+ and clearly differentiate between diversities of gender and sexuality.
- Describe the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people.
- Explain the impacts of discrimination and the importance of visibility and inclusion.
- Use inclusive language and appropriate terminology in everyday interactions.
- Create safer interactions and spaces through practical allyship.
This training is suitable for General Practitioners (GPs) and other clinicians to complete for CPD points.
*This eLearning is an introductory program created for people who are not LGBTQ+ themselves. But if you're a member of the LGBTQ+ community you may still find it interesting and informative.
