Our Learning Methodologies

We use a suite of evidence‑based models and frameworks to shape how we design and deliver learning. These methodologies ensure our programs are structured, effective, and grounded in best practice.

COM‑B (Behaviour Change Model)

The COM‑B model helps us understand the behaviours that need to shift to create LGBTQ+ inclusion — and what supports or prevents those behaviours. By analysing capability, opportunity, and motivation, we design training that targets the real barriers people face, whether they’re knowledge gaps, cultural norms, system constraints, or confidence issues. This ensures our learning leads to meaningful, sustainable change.

Kolb’s Experiential Learning Cycle

Kolb’s model emphasises learning through experience and reflection. Learners move through four stages: Concrete Experience, Reflective Observation, Abstract Conceptualisation, and Active Experimentation. This model helps learners connect new knowledge to real‑world practice. Its focus on experience and reflection supports deeper understanding, skill development, and behaviour change, which is especially valuable in LGBTQ+ inclusion training, where people often seek to better understand lived experience and the perspectives of others.

70‑20‑10 (Blended Learning Model)

The 70‑20‑10 framework helps us design learning that extends beyond training. We combine formal learning (10%), social and peer‑based learning (20%), and real‑world practice (70%) to create experiences that embed knowledge into everyday behaviour. This is especially important for LGBTQ+ inclusion, where ongoing reflection, practice, and reinforcement are essential.

Additional methodologies we use include:

  • Adult learning principles

  • Trauma‑informed practice

  • Inclusive facilitation methods

  • Reflective practice models

While our training is grounded in these learning methodologies, some organisations benefit from customised or bespoke programs tailored to their specific context and roles.
