Audience: Health + Wellbeing Service Providers
Strengthen your understanding of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) people and communities to deliver more inclusive, informed and appropriate care. Explore the unique suicide risk factors for LGBTQ+ people and considerations for responding appropriately to this community.
This eLearning is comprised of 2 parts:
- LGBTQ+ Introduction (1 hour)
- LGBTQ+ Suicide Prevention + Case Studies (2.5 hours)
This training is suitable for General Practitioners (GPs) and other clinicians to complete for CPD points.
- Apply knowledge of diverse genders and sexualities to communicate respectfully with the LGBTQ+ community.
- Outline LGBTQ+ mental health and suicide disparities.
- Identify and address suicide risk factors when consulting with LGBTQ+ people.
- Respond to suicidality including mobilising immediate supports, safety planning and discharge planning, to meet the unique needs of LGBTQ+ people.
- Integrate inclusive referral pathways to provide appropriate support for LGBTQ+ clients with diverse experiences.
