Develop the skills needed to provide a safe and inclusive space that delivers exceptional person-centred care.
LGBTQ+ people experience higher rates of alcohol and other drugs use than the general population, often shaped by minority stress, discrimination, community connection, and broader social determinants of health. Many LGBTQ+ clients also face barriers when accessing alcohol and other drugs services, including fear of judgement, previous negative experiences, or concerns about being misunderstood. Inclusive practice is essential to creating environments where LGBTQ+ people feel safe, respected, and supported in their treatment and recovery.
This comprehensive full‑day training deepens your understanding of LGBTQ+ identities, lived experiences, and alcohol and other drugs‑related priorities, while equipping you with practical strategies to embed inclusive practice into your everyday work. Developed and delivered by LGBTQ+ community members and subject matter experts, the session blends foundational knowledge with applied learning through case studies, reflective activities, and real‑world scenarios.
Across the day, you’ll explore terminology, lived experience, discrimination and its impacts, patterns of alcohol and other drugs use, harm‑minimisation considerations, barriers to care, and the practical steps practitioners can take to create culturally safe, inclusive, and affirming services. Designed for professionals working in alcohol and other drugs support, this training helps you confidently engage with LGBTQ+ clients and adapt your practice to meet their unique needs.
