Trans and gender diverse people come from all cultures and walks of life. Their unique lived experiences often mean they face barriers to respectful, effective care. Without a specialised, affirming approach, services risk unintentionally reinforcing exclusion, misunderstanding, or harm.

This eLearning builds your knowledge, skills, and confidence to work respectfully and effectively with trans and gender diverse people. Developed by ACON’s Pride Training and Trans Health Equity teams, in collaboration with medical service providers and trans community members, it combines expert guidance with personal stories, video testimonials, and animations to bring learning to life. You’ll explore the realities of being trans in Australia, the unique healthcare needs of trans people, how to unpack assumptions and bias, and the foundations of trans‑affirming practice.

Ideal for professionals in medical services, allied health, and community development, this training equips you to embed inclusive, affirming approaches into your everyday work, services, and programs.

Learning Outcomes 
By the end of this course, you will be able to:

1. Define LGBTQ+ and differentiate between gender and sexuality.
2. Describe common shared experiences of the trans community.
3. Demonstrate in‑depth awareness of the physical, mental, and social health disparities facing trans and gender diverse people.
4. Identify areas for improvement within your role and workplace, and apply trans‑affirming practice in day‑to‑day activities.
5. Implement inclusive and affirming language to build rapport with trans and gender diverse clients.

This training is suitable for General Practitioners (GPs) and other clinicians to complete for CPD points.
