LGBTQ+ Inclusive Aged Care Services In-Person
Practical skills for creating safer, more inclusive aged care for older LGBTQ+ people.
This focused workshop builds the practical knowledge and confidence needed to provide safe, respectful, and inclusive care for older LGBTQ+ people accessing aged care services. Many older LGBTQ+ people have lived through discrimination, stigma, criminalisation, and exclusion in health and aged care services. These experiences can shape how they engage with providers, their willingness to disclose their identity, and their sense of safety when accessing support.
In this session, participants explore key concepts, health considerations, and the unique challenges faced by older LGBTQ+ people. Through case studies and guided discussion, we examine how stigma shows up in aged care environments and identify practical ways to create culturally safe, affirming interactions. The workshop is designed for aged care workers across residential, community, and home‑based services who want to strengthen their inclusive practice and better engage with older LGBTQ+ clients.
